Reno Salampessy Makes the Difference! Indonesia U-19 Team Leads Vietnam 1-0, Reaching the Semifinals Wide Open

Indonesia U-19 National Team Puts on a Solid Performance, Leading Vietnam 1-0 in the First Half

The Indonesian U-19 national team managed to close the first half with a 1-0 lead over Vietnam in the 2026 AFF U-19 Championship, which took place at the North Sumatra Main Stadium on Sunday (June 7th).

From the opening whistle, both teams immediately played at a high tempo. Physical duels frequently occurred in various areas of the pitch, while Vietnam tried to match the aggressiveness of the Garuda Muda with a fairly aggressive game.

Early in the match, both teams relied primarily on long balls to build attacks. Although several chances were created, each team's defense was still able to suppress the incoming threats.

Indonesia finally broke the deadlock through Reno Salampessy, who gave the Garuda Muda a 1-0 lead. This goal proved the difference in a tight and pressure-filled match.

However, disaster struck Indonesia in the 34th minute. Reno Salampessy suffered a physical problem and had to leave the field early. His position was then replaced by Irpan Siregar.

Despite the loss of one of their key players, the Indonesian U-19 national team's performance did not significantly decline. The Young Garuda continued to pressure Vietnam's defense, although they appeared to lack composure in their finishing at times.

As the first half drew to a close, tensions rose again. Several clashes between players led to several stoppages as the medical team had to enter the field to administer treatment.

Until referee Tanimoto Ryo blew the whistle to signal the end of the first half, Indonesia's 1-0 lead remained. This result puts the Indonesian U-19 national team at the top of Group A.
