Jakarta – A residential neighborhood in East Jakarta has garnered attention after successfully transforming its alleyways into a clean, green, and aesthetically pleasing area, driven by the residents' spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation). This success was highlighted in the "Grebek Gang Viral" program hosted by Irfan Hakim.
During his visit, Irfan Hakim witnessed firsthand the efforts undertaken by residents alongside the local neighborhood association (RT) head, Taufiq S. Yusuf—ranging from plant cultivation to environmental landscaping—which have made the area look more lush and inviting.
Irfan Hakim praised the residents' spirit of togetherness, noting it as the key factor behind the neighborhood's transformation.
According to Taufiq S. Yusuf, this success did not stem solely from government programs but arose from the awareness and active participation of all residents.
"This isn't an RT program; it's a residents' movement."
He explained that the transformation began with simple steps: starting within individual households, maintaining consistency, and encouraging all residents to take action together.
The success of this RT in East Jakarta serves as proof that the power of mutual cooperation remains a vital asset in building a healthy, green, and comfortable living environment.
From an East Jakarta Alleyway to International Recognition
The innovations implemented by Taufiq and the residents of RT 08/RW 04, Malaka Jaya, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, have attracted attention far beyond Indonesia.
This community-based neighborhood development effort has even drawn interest from abroad. Taufiq was invited to China and featured in reports and broadcasts by China Central Television (CCTV) to showcase the environmental innovations developed within this Jakarta residential area.
This visit stands as a testament to the fact that innovations originating in a modest neighborhood can serve as inspiration on an international scale.
Taufiq has also reportedly received recognition from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for the innovations developed in collaboration with the community. It did not stop there; their work in environment-based community development also garnered attention from the United States, earning recognition regarding Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as well as awards for their contributions to community development.
Driven by a spirit of togetherness, a residential alleyway was able to transform into a neighborhood that instills pride and inspires other areas. As Taufiq S. Yusuf put it, "If one neighborhood unit can do it, why can't others?"
