Ali An Nuur, a University of Mataram student, has achieved international recognition with an AI-powered Quran memorization app.

Indonesia has once again achieved a proud milestone on the international stage. A student from the University of Mataram in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) won an award at the Apple Swift Student Challenge 2026 for an AI-powered app called Nuramma.

The way it works is quite simple. A child recites Quranic verses into the microphone, and the system listens and matches the recitation in real-time. If there are errors, the app flags them, making the learning process more effective.

What makes this app even more compelling are its offline capabilities and gamification elements. Children can continue learning without an internet connection, while the game-like features make the memorization process enjoyable rather than tedious.

The idea for Nuramma did not emerge out of nowhere. Ali An Nuur drew inspiration from his own experiences while attending elementary school in Maluk, Sumbawa. At the time, he often struggled to find someone to listen to his Quran recitations because his parents were busy working.

Nuramma’s success at the Apple Swift Student Challenge 2026 is a source of pride not only for the University of Mataram but for Indonesia as a whole. This achievement demonstrates that local innovations can compete internationally and proves that technology can go hand-in-hand with educational and religious values.

Hopefully, more innovations like Nuramma will be created by the nation's youth, bringing tangible benefits to society.
