What happens if my passport has already expired?

There is no fine for letting a passport expire. Renewing it is a personal decision, but you cannot leave Australia without a valid passport. If you plan to travel abroad or need the passport for another purpose — a visa extension, for example — you should apply for a replacement at the Consulate without delay.

What if I have to travel to Indonesia urgently because of an emergency?

Apply for a replacement passport as soon as possible. If you must leave earlier, call or email the Consulate to explain your situation. Processing takes two to three working days. We strongly advise you NOT to make travel plans or buy tickets before you have received the new document.

Do I lose my Indonesian citizenship if my passport expires?

No. The status of your passport has no bearing on your Indonesian citizenship.

Do I need to update the address shown in my passport?

No. The Consulate no longer prints your full address in the passport.

My child already holds an Indonesian passport — is an affidavit still required?

Yes. Your child still needs to be registered for an affidavit. The document evidences their limited dual-citizenship status. If you apply for a passport for a dual-national child, the affidavit must be registered first, as one of the passport requirements.
