UNIMOF Allows Students to Pay for Tuition with Agricultural and Marine Produce

Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara – Amidst the high cost of education, which is often a barrier for many families, Muhammadiyah University of Maumere (UNIMOF) in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has introduced a unique and inspiring policy. The campus allows students to pay tuition using agricultural and marine produce as an alternative to cash.

It Started with a Student's Story

The Rector of Muhammadiyah University of Maumere, Erwin Prasetyo, explained that the idea emerged after the campus encountered a student who was unable to pay tuition fees because his family lacked cash. However, the student's family had an abundant harvest, but it was difficult to sell.

Recognizing this situation, the campus then helped market the student's harvest. The proceeds were then used to pay for tuition. From this experience, the policy allowing students to pay for tuition using agricultural produce was born.

Education Must Be Accessible to All

Erwin Prasetyo explained that this policy is not new. This program has been implemented since 2018 and is still running.

This policy has also received widespread public attention as it is considered a creative solution that provides an opportunity for the children of farmers and fishermen to continue their education without being burdened by financial problems.
