Tourism in Istanbul Part I

Here are some recommended tourist attractions in the European part of Istanbul that you must visit — perfect for history, culture, culinary delights, and beautiful photos:

🕌 1. Sultanahmet (Istanbul Old City) This is the most historic area in Istanbul, with many attractions in one area. Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya) A former church, then a mosque, then a museum, and now a mosque again. An icon of Istanbul. Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) A beautiful mosque with six minarets and a stunning blue interior. Topkapi Palace Palace of the Ottoman Sultans. It houses relics of the Prophet Muhammad, such as his robe and beard. Basilica Cistern An underground Roman water reservoir. Unique and atmospheric. Hippodrome Square A large square, a former Roman racetrack, now a popular tourist destination.

🏛️ 2. Taksim and Istiklal Street A modern and lively area, a hub for young people and shopping. Taksim Square The central meeting point of the city. It features the Turkish Independence Monument. Istiklal Avenue A long street lined with shops, cafes, and street performers. Don't forget to try the iconic red vintage tram. Galata Tower An ancient tower you can climb, offering 360° views of Istanbul.

🏞️ 3. Bosphorus Cruise (From the European side) Take a boat from Eminönü or Kabataş, along the Bosphorus Strait. You can choose from: Short 1.5-hour cruise Long cruise to the Black Sea Romantic sunset cruise 🌅

🛍️ 4. Grand Bazaar & Spice Bazaar Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) The largest and oldest covered market in the world. Lots of unique items, jewelry, souvenirs, etc. Spice Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı) A market for spices, tea, and typical Turkish souvenirs.

🏰 5. Dolmabahçe Palace A European-style Ottoman palace on the banks of the Bosphorus. Majestic and luxurious, it was once the center of government after Topkapi.

🌿 6. Gulhane Park A large park near Topkapi. Perfect for a relaxing picnic and stroll. Beautiful in spring (tulips in bloom).

📷 7. Balat & Fener A colorful area with old houses and quaint alleys. An Instagram-worthy photo spot. Lots of cute cafes, murals, and a classic European-Turkish atmosphere.
