Istanbul, Türkiye – Indonesian citizens (WNI) who plan to get married in Türkiye are required to obtain a Marriage Introduction Letter from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Istanbul. The letter is issued in Turkish and contains information regarding both prospective spouses as one of the documents required by the local authorities to conduct an official marriage in Türkiye.
To facilitate the application process, applicants are expected to bring the original documents and ensure that all requirements have been completed.
Main Documents to Be Prepared
Applicants are required to submit:
- Original Forms N1 to N5 obtained from the local administrative office (kelurahan) in Indonesia and valid for a maximum of 2 months.
- For Muslim applicants: a marriage recommendation letter from the Religious Affairs Office (KUA).
- For non-Muslim applicants: a marriage recommendation letter from the Civil Registry Office.
Special Requirements for Divorced or Widowed Applicants
Applicants who are divorced must provide a divorce certificate. Female applicants should pay attention to the waiting period (iddah) requirements imposed by the Turkish authorities.
Meanwhile, applicants who are widowed due to the death of their spouse are required to provide Form N6 or the death certificate of their husband or wife.
Additional Documents Required
In addition to the main documents, applicants must also provide:
- Proof of Self-Reporting Registration (Lapor Diri) at KJRI Istanbul.
- One recent biometric photograph.
- Photocopy of Indonesian Identity Card (KTP).
- Photocopy of Family Card (Kartu Keluarga).
- Photocopy of Birth Certificate.
- Photocopy of Passport.
Documents for a Turkish Citizen Prospective Spouse
If the prospective spouse is a Turkish citizen, the following documents must be prepared:
- One biometric photograph.
- Photocopy of Kimlik (Turkish Identity Card) or residence permit.
- Photocopy of passport.
- Certificate of Single Status (Nüfus Kayıt Örneği) obtained through e-Devlet.
- Certificate of Good Conduct (Adli Sicil Kaydı) obtained through e-Devlet.
In addition, a prospective husband who is a Turkish citizen is required to submit salary slips or bank account statements for the last three months.
Application Form
Applicants are also required to download, complete, and bring the Marriage Introduction Letter Application Form available through the services of KJRI Istanbul.
Requirements for Residence Permit Application
For Indonesian citizens who intend to apply for a family residence permit (ikamet) in Türkiye after marriage, it is recommended to bring:
- A Police Clearance Certificate (SKCK) that has been apostilled by the Indonesian authorities.
- A Birth Certificate that has been apostilled by the Indonesian authorities.
Additional Requirements for Marriage with a Non-Turkish Foreign Citizen
If an Indonesian citizen intends to marry a foreign citizen other than a Turkish citizen, or a Turkish citizen holding dual citizenship, additional documents are required, namely:
- A certificate of single status issued by the Embassy or Consulate of the foreign citizen concerned and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye.
- A photocopy of the foreign citizen’s passport.
- A Certificate of Good Conduct in English legalized by the Embassy or Consulate of the foreign citizen’s country in Türkiye.
KJRI Istanbul and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Türkiye (KBRI Ankara) encourage all Indonesian citizens to carefully prepare the required documents before applying for a Marriage Introduction Letter so that the administrative process can proceed smoothly and in accordance with the regulations applicable in both Indonesia and Türkiye.
