13 Indonesian Islamic Universities Rank Among the World's Top 25 Islamic Universities (uniRank 2026); UMSU Ranked #1 Globally

Proud news has emerged from Indonesia's higher education sector. Thirteen Islamic higher education institutions have successfully broken into the top 25 list of the world's best Islamic universities according to the uniRank 2026 rankings. Notably, the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU) secured the number one spot globally, surpassing hundreds of Islamic universities from various countries.

This achievement serves as proof that Muhammadiyah higher education institutions are continuing to grow, demonstrating global competitiveness and gaining increasing international recognition.

In the rankings released by uniRank 2026, a total of 438 Islamic universities from various countries were evaluated. Indonesia demonstrated a dominant presence by placing several campuses in the top ranks, highlighting the strengthening quality of national Islamic higher education on the global stage.

The top three Islamic universities in the world according to uniRank 2026 are:

1. University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU) – Indonesia
2. International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) – Malaysia
3. Cairo University – Egypt

In addition to UMSU, six other Muhammadiyah higher education institutions (PTMA) successfully made it into the global top 25:

• University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UMSurabaya)
• University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY)
• University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ)
• Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD)
• University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM)

Beyond the Muhammadiyah institutions, other Indonesian Islamic universities also secured prestigious positions, including the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) and UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
