About Us

Who we are, who this platform is for, and how you can take part.

What is Masyarakat Indonesia?

Masyarakat Indonesia is a multilingual community platform for people connected to Indonesia — wherever they happen to live. Here you can read, ask, share your experience, and find practical information about life in Indonesia and abroad.

We are not a news agency and not an official body. We are a shared space: most of what you find here is written, asked, and discussed by community members themselves.

Who is this platform for?

  • Indonesians living in Indonesia
  • Indonesians living, working, or studying abroad
  • Anyone who loves Indonesian culture, language, and life — from any country

That is why this site exists in eight languages rather than one.

How we started

Masyarakat Indonesia began in 2025 as a simple static site: a handful of articles and news items, with no membership and no place to talk.

The need turned out to be larger. People did not only want to read; they wanted to ask, to answer, and to find one another. In 2026 the site was rebuilt from scratch as a community platform with membership, a forum, an events calendar, and member-to-member messaging.

What you will find here

  • Articles, news, and blog posts — practical guides, coverage, and personal experience
  • Forum — a place to ask and answer, moderated per category
  • Events and calendar — community activities plus Indonesian holidays and observances
  • Indonesian missions — a directory of embassies and consulates with their areas of jurisdiction
  • Exchange rates — the rupiah against other currencies, for information only
  • Daily game — an Indonesian word puzzle
  • Messages and notifications — so members can reach each other

Eight languages, not one

The site is available in Indonesian, English, Turkish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Each language has its own page addresses — not machine translation layered on top of a single page.

The legal texts on this site — the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use — are written in Indonesian as the authoritative version; the other languages are translations.

Write with us

You do not need to be a journalist to write here. If you have experience that would help someone else — getting a visa, moving to a new city, finding a school, starting a small business — that experience has value.

Apply through the Become an Author page. Every piece is edited before it is published, and your name stays on it as the author.

There are other ways to take part: answering questions in the forum, proposing an event, or reporting something that is wrong so we can correct it.

Who runs this

The platform is operated by PT Masyarakat Indonesia Digital Diaspora & Community Platform, based in Kota Tangerang Selatan, Banten, Indonesia.

The platform currently runs no commercial revenue model: no advertising is served, there is no membership fee, and content is not sold.

Getting in touch

Questions, corrections, reports, and requests about your personal data can all be sent through the Contact page. We deliberately do not publish an email address on the site so that it cannot be harvested by bots — but every message from the form reaches us.
